Oxford Private Tours

Why choose a Private Tour?

A private tour is the best way to get to know Oxford, and will allow you and your group to have the best possible visit, tailored to your interests and needs. (With a small group it’s often possible to visit places which are not open to larger groups.)  Your knowledgeable guide will show you the most important sights of the city, and will help unlock the secrets of Oxford.

You can choose your theme or themes from any of our available tours. For first time visitors we recommend our Classic City and University tour.

We strongly recommend including a visit to one or more of the Oxford Colleges. Your guide will explain why colleges are an important part of student life at Oxford, and will give you a flavour of student life at Oxford today, and in the past. Oxford is the oldest university in the United Kingdom and there are many stories to tell!

Whatever your interests, we can make a tour for you!

  • We recommend our popular Classic city and University tour. The tour provides an introduction to the city, university and colleges, and is perfect for first time visitors to the city, and also for those who want to get to know the city better!
  • Our Literary tour visits key locations connected with J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S.Lewis, Lewis Carroll and other writers, and explores their lives and work.
  • Our History and Architecture tour looks in particular at the History of religion in the UK, the role played by Oxford, and how this is reflected in the different architectural styles of Oxford, in particular the college chapels.
  • Our British Civil Wars tour gives an overview of the wars and the part played by Oxford in the 1640s and 1650s.  Oxford was the royalist capital from 1642 – 1646, and England was a republic from 1649 – 1660.
  • On our Inspector Morse tour, come and discover where many of the episodes were filmed. Walk in the footsteps of John Thaw, Kevin Wheatley and Shaun Evans.
  • If you’re interested in singing / choral music, on most afternoons we can create a tour for you including a visit to one of the college chapels to attend a service and hear one of the best choirs in the world!  The evening service takes place around 6 p.m. most days. It’s best to visit during the university term if possible.
  • If you’re interested in sport, come with us and visit Oxford’s Real Tennis court – one of the few courts in the world where this king of games is played every day! We may even be able to arrange for you to play!

Whatever your interests, your expert guide will give you the best experience possible.

Plus! Your guide will also help you to plan your visit to Oxford. A bit of local knowledge can help you to have a truly memorable stay!

What people say:

Excellent. Tim, our guide, allowed us to discover corners hidden from tourists, he answered all our children’s questions, he was very patient and even though we asked for the tour in Italian, he helped our children with their English lessons.
